Course Description
The University Centre's weekend course is an exciting beginners course in Icelandic, in the magnificent surroundings of the remote Westfjords, and will prepare you for living and studying in Iceland.
Course dates: 2 September - 4 September 2011 and
9 September - 11 September 2011.
This weekend course is an intensive beginners course in Icelandic language and culture and is especially designed to meet the needs of people who plan to stay in Iceland for a semester or two or even longer and also people that already live in Iceland but don´t know the language. The course will prepare participants for daily life in Iceland.
The participants will be taught basic Icelandic vocabulary through lectures and exercises in small groups. Conversation exercises will include language games and problem-based learning in real situations. Pronunciation exercises will take many forms. Learning the language and culture will be the priority and everything students do this weekend is designed to facilitate learning Icelandic. Every object will be marked with their Icelandic name, participants will learn Icelandic food names while they have their meals etc.
The course location is in Núpur in Dýrafjörður.
The University Centre of the Westfjords has several years of experience in hosting field schools for foreign students and offering courses in Icelandic language and culture. Also, the University Centre offers an international, cross disciplinary master's program in Coastal and marine management.
