Námskeiðslýsing
In this course students will be introduced to fish farming in general as well as farming techniques. This course will especially focus on the biology of farmed fish and the interaction between environment and farm. This will be followed up by study of how regulations are set and comparison between established farm sites and new farm sites. Further, students will learn how to assess and evaluate environmental impact of fish farming. The process from juvenile rearing to harvesting will be introduced. General knowledge of regulations and guidelines for farmers will also be supplied.The aim of the course is to give students an overview of sustainable aquaculture practices and well as the main challenges of the industry in terms of sustainability.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:- understand of how fish farm is operated
- explain what state-of-the-art farming/breeding programs are used
- explain what common constrains are involved in farming fish
- outline main regulations and typical environmental monitoring schemes
