Petra Granholm studies Coastal and Marine Managment at the University Centre, she will talk about her home contry The Åland Islands at the Lunch Lecture this Friday.
In the Lunch Lecture Friday January 29th, Petra Granholm will talk about the autonomy and demilitarization of the Åland Islands. The lecture will be in English and is open to the public, it starts at 12.10 PM and is held in the cafeteria of the University Centre.

The Åland Islands are, together with Greenland and the Faroe Islands, one of three self-governed regions represented in the Nordic Council. The autonomy system of the islands in the Baltic Sea has been described as one of the most successful in the world. In this Friday's lunch lecture, Petra Granholm will present some perspectives on the autonomy and demilitarization of the islands, including the history, relationship between Finland, Sweden and Russia, the Swedish language of the islands and minority protection.

Petra Granholm is a student at the CMM program at the University Centre of the Westfjords. When she is not studying coastal and marine management, she is a researcher at the Åland Islands Peace Institute, which conducts projects and research on peace and conflict issues in a broadly defined sense, from the vantage-point of Åland and the special status that Åland enjoys under international law. The institute focuses on security, autonomy and minorities.
