New course: Coastal and Marine Ecology

The current course at the Coastal and Marine program is Coastal and marine ecology. The main instructors are Gudmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson and Hrönn Egilsdóttir. This is the second time Gudmundur Ingi teaches at University Centre. Hrönn is new to the course in Ísafjörður.

Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson has taught the following courses, in whole or in part, at the University of Iceland: Climate Change, Past, Present and Future; Ecology B; Environmental Science (for biologist); Seminar in Environment and Natural Resources II; and Management of Protected Areas - field trip to Southeast Iceland.

Gudmundur Ingi has a BS in biology from the University of Iceland (2002) and MEM degree in environmental science from Yale University (2006). From 2006 to 2008 he studied international research project with the Soil Conservation Service. After that he began working for the Institute for Sustainable for sustainable development of the UI. In the spring of 2010 he was Deputy Choice Program in Environment and Natural Resources at UI. In autumn 2011 he took it over as managing director of Iceland's largest environmental NGO, Landvernd.


Hrönn Egilsdóttir
Hrönn Egilsdóttir
In 2009, Hrönn Egilsdóttir started her PhD in Marine Science at The University of Iceland and the Marine Research Institute, Iceland. Her project is titled: Ocean acidification in Icelandic waters and effects on calcifying biota. Her main supervisor is Prof. Jón Ólafsson.

Hrönn has a MRes Marine Biology (2008) from The University of Plymouth, UK and a B.Sc. Marine Biology and related studies (2007) from The University of Iceland.

Hrönn's work experience includes jobs at the Marine Biological Association, UK
where she worked on the MarClim project which involved shore surveys around the UK, counting and identifying barnacles. and organisation of large datasets.

Hrönn also worked for The University of Plymouth as an assistant organiser of the Macrophysiology meeting held in May 2008 in England, and as a research assistant in aquaculture and fish biology at Hólar University College.
