Now just over a month into the school year 2011-2012, the distance learning students from various universities are pouring over their books. This year approximately 100 students in the Westfjords are registered in the distance learning programs from six universities. Most of the students are from the University of Akureyri and the University of Iceland. The speed at which their studies are pursued varies between individuals and subjects, but there is an increase in full-time students while others still pursue study alongside work.
The University Centre of the Westfjords takes pride in providing a competitive service to the students, offering good reading and printing facilities, remote conferencing equipment for those who require it, and good facilities for students working together on projects. At exam time, the University Centre is responsible for testing the distance learning students. We would like to take this opportunity to reiterate that it is important for students to register for their exams in the right place.
More and more opportunities have opened up for distance learning education in recent years. Six universities in Iceland now offer distance learning, and the courses on offer are expanding. The University Centre now offers the services of a guidance counselor and you are welcome to drop by should you require her services.
