As a partner in the Aqua-Tnet Socrates Thematic Network on Aquaculture, Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Management, the University Centre is represented by director, Dr. Peter Weiss, at the ongoing Aqua Tnet's annual meeting in Faro Portugal. During his stay he will also meet with an Aqua-Tnet group specifically discussing the establishment and enhancement of M.Sc. programs within aquaculture. The group meeting will focus on enhancing student's mobility through harmonization of master's theses requirements, problems and chances in students' cooperation with the industries' and the integration of stakeholders into innovative learning and teaching in aquaculture and related subjects.

On the way out, Peter Weiss, together with Hreiðar Þór Valtýsson, director of the Fisheries Science Centre of the University of Akureyri, met with representatives for UArctic and Bergen Marine Research Cluster in Reykjavík. Several UArctic representatives dwell these days in Iceland for the Northern Research Forum's Conference on Our Ice Dependent World, amongst them Lars Kullerud president and Outi Snellman general secretary.

Also Øystein Paasche, Bergen Marine Research Cluster is in Iceland for the NRF-conference. Bergen is interested in actively participating in the still young UArctic Thematic Network on coastal and marine issues, led by UWestfjords and UAkureyri.

"Iceland is a place where the four elements seem to be engaged in a constant battle for dominance over the lives of its inhabitants. This provides an exciting, if sometimes demanding, backdrop to the CMM programme. It's hard to imagine an environment better suited to preparing students for the challenges of a career in natural resource management."
